Soaring price hike on fuel in Indian when it was low in global market was one of the reasons why Manmohan Singh-led UPA-2 government was voted out of power in 2014. In 2021, governments at the centre and state have hiked central excise duty and sales taxes on fuel to boost revenue with sharp increase on fuel price with no concern for the consumer’s needs even as the fuel price is low in global market.
