National President of Welfare Party of India Dr SQR Ilyas strongly criticized the Pro corporate BJP government for the increasing disparity between the rich and the poor as per the Oxfam report and called it shameful.


He said, “as per the Oxfam report the total number of billionaires have increased in India from 102 in 2020 to 142 in 2021 and 166 in 2022 which points at the favourable policies of Modi Government towards the corporates and crony capitalism cannot be ruled out.


He said, as per the report the total wealth of the 10 richest Indian stood at Rs 27.52 lakh crore in 2022, a 32.8% rise from 2021 and reminded that India’s resources belong to all its citizens and there should be equitable distribution of wealth.


He pointed, at the stark contrast of 22.89 crore people who live below poverty in India while the Rich 1% own 40.5% of India’s wealth and also pointed at the global hunger index report of 2022 wherein India ranks 107 in 121 countries and called this disparity criminality.


He demanded, the government to levy wealth tax on the super rich and to remove GST on the essential goods so that there is some respite for the poor.
