Welfare Party of India strongly condemned the failure of the state government in mishandling the issues of reservation and other grievances in the state of Manipur and demanded the resignation of CM Shri Biren Singh.
Dr SQR Ilyas National President of Welfare Party of India said there has been longstanding tension and suspicion between tribal communities and majoritarian hindu Meitei community ,and this conflict has been exploited for political benefits.
He said the reservation demand of the majoritarian hindu Meitei group and the direction to the state government to submit recommendations in this matter by the Manipur High Court led to widespread arson and violence with schools, houses, churches and public properties set ablaze by the protesting mobs
He said the reservation issue is being misused by the BJP party throughout the country for vote bank politics leading to social conflicts and unhealthy competitions.
He said there are 40 representatives in the 60 assembly seats in Manipur state, which belong to the Meitei majority hindu community, further reservation for this community will only deprive and suppress the tribal communities in the hilly state.
He said, the BJP government has failed to provide jobs and affordable education to the youth and the tribals have also been subjected to discrimination and harassment with forceful evictions from the past two years and all this has only added fuel to the fire and worsened the situation in Manipur state.
Dr Ilyas demanded resignation of C.M of Manipur Biren Singh for mishandling the issue and added that the misuse of armed forces, draconian laws & internet ban will only exacerbate the problem and demanded a humane approach to the problem.
